Evangilization / Outreach
40 Days for Life
Participate in annual fall event that combines Eucharistic exposition and adoration at St. Peter Church and travel to Granite City for one-hour of silent prayer outside of the abortion mill.
Back-to-School Help Fair
Parish volunteers help to organize and conduct an annual sock-and-underwear drive each summer and provide volunteers who work at a Saturday morning Back-to-School Help Fair in August. The Help Fair provides services, supplies and clothing to more than 700 students each year.
Catholics at the Capitol
Participate in annual public affairs advocacy day sponsored by Catholic Conference of Illinois in Springfield each March.
Parish volunteers help to organize and conduct an annual Giving Wreath. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, parishioners typically donate around 1,000 Christmas gifts to area residents in need.
Through its Fair Trade ministry, St. Peter’s educates parishioners about Fair Trade and sells Fair Trade items from Catholic Relief Services during coffee and donuts each month. Volunteers help with promotion, staffing during coffee and donuts, ordering, and processing orders when they arrive.
Help organize and support St. Peter Parish participation in the annual Life Chain, an hour of prayer and silent vigil for the end of abortion, the first Sunday each October.
This Ministry promotes the sanctity of life from the moment of conception to natural death. Activities include sponsorship of a Baby Shower, Life Fair, parish participation in the Life Chain and ‘40 Days for Life’ each October, participation in the Walk for Life and other initiatives in January, and Pennies for Life each year from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day.
Social Concerns Committee
Social Concerns provides direct assistance (gas money, food vouchers, etc.) for needy persons in our area and arranges for speakers on a wide variety of social issues. The group funds its work through Fifth Sunday collections and a December cookie sale. The group also sponsors monthly collections to benefit Ladies of Charity. Meetings take place monthly on Friday mornings at the church.
The Soles4Souls annual shoe drive provides gently worn shoes for those in need.
St. Peter volunteers staff Horizons’ Soup Kitchen during lunch on the first, third and fifth Mondays of the month from 10:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m.
World Beyond our Walls Team
Led by the Pastoral Council, members of our World Beyond our Walls team develop ongoing activities and projects that reflect Catholic Social Teaching and enable parishioners to reach out to others beyond our parish.
